Approach

How the work runs

Four stages, roughly eight weeks for a full build. You review the real thing in a browser long before launch, on the device your customers actually use.

4 stages

  1. 01

    Orient

    Week 1

Understand the business before the website.

We start with how the business actually makes money, who decides to buy, and what the current site is failing to do. We look at your competitors honestly and at your analytics if they exist. This is a conversation with the founders, not a questionnaire.

    Output
    • Positioning and audience definition
    • Audit of the current site, if there is one
    • Agreed measure of success

  2. 02

    Define

    Weeks 2 to 3

Decide what the site says, and in what order.

Sitemap, page-by-page narrative, and the message hierarchy for every screen that matters. Copy is drafted here, not retrofitted at the end. Art direction is agreed at the same time so the photography and the layout are designed for each other.

    Output
    • Sitemap and page narratives
    • Draft copy for key pages
    • Art direction and shot list

  3. 03

    Make

    Weeks 4 to 8

Design and build, in the browser, together.

Design system first, then the standard-setting page, then everything else. We work in the browser early so you review the real thing at real speed on a real phone, rather than approving a picture of a website. Photography and film are produced in this window.

    Output
    • Design system and component library
    • Original photography and film
    • Staged, reviewable build

  4. 04

    Run

    Launch, then ongoing

Ship it, measure it, keep improving it.

Migration, redirects, analytics and search handled properly so the launch does not cost you visibility. Then we watch what people actually do and change the pages that are not working. The first version is a starting position.

    Output
    • Migration, redirects and search continuity
    • Analytics and enquiry tracking
    • Post-launch iteration

Timing

Eight weeks, honestly stated.

A full build runs about eight weeks from the first conversation to launch. A rebuild of an existing site is usually shorter. A booking or commerce system is usually longer.

The single thing that moves a date is content: photography that has not been shot, copy that has not been approved, or a decision waiting on someone who is not in the room. We plan for that at the start rather than discovering it in week six.

Enquiries

Tell us what you are building.

If your website no longer represents the business behind it, send us the address and tell us what it is failing to do. We reply to every enquiry.
